Matthew Hughes

Director of US Operations, BevZero

Alternate Beverages Panel

Matt brings more than twenty years of industry experience to his role at BevZero. He has served as a Winemaker, Director of Winemaking, and General Manager for the last decade.  After progressing from various positions in the cellar, lab, and winemaking, Matt owned and operated a small wine company for several years before returning to help others build and grow their companies.  He has held positions at Kendall-Jackson, Vérité, Six Sigma Ranch, and Brassfield Estate. Most recently, prior to joining BevZero, Matt helped create and launch a large custom crush and wine services facility, Feliz Creek Cellars, from the ground up. “I am passionate about the no and low alcohol space.

The products and brands we work with end up in my kitchen, on my table, and in the glasses of my friends and family. I am excited to see how our company and our clients evolve as our overall knowledge and technology evolves.”  Matt joined the team in early 2021 as Director of US Operations and has transitioned to the role of General Manager. If Matt is not at his desk, you might find him on his mountain bike, in a yoga class, at a concert, or exploring the amazing food and beverage culture of California and beyond.

Marketing Your Private Label Brands

I'm an energetic, decision-oriented marketer who loves juggling a variety of brand projects at once. I love working with teams big and small to bring new brands to life that fill consumer needs.

I'm currently the Senior Director of Marketing for The Wine Group's Corporate Brands Division (Private Label) and Emerging Channels (Convenience, Dollar, etc). In this role, I'm responsible for 45+ brands across 20+ key retailers nationwide. I manage a team of 4 that is responsible for both base and innovation in private label wines. Prior to this role, I was a Senior Brand Manager at The Wine Group, with a team of 2 direct reports, responsible for one of the companies biggest brands: Cupcake Vineyards. Before this, I was the Innovation Brand Manager at TWG, responsible for launching new wine brands for the company, running test markets across various retailers, and helping to further develop the innovation strategy at the company.

Previously, I was an Associate Marketing Manager at The Clorox Company, with experience on both base businesses and innovation. I have led integrated marketing campaigns for Clorox Sprays, Green Works, F409, and Tilex.

I received my Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from UC Berkeley - Haas School of Business in May 2013.

Before beginning at Haas, I worked for Booz Allen Hamilton in Strategic Communications for three years. I supported a variety of government agencies (FBI, Department of Treasury, IRS, and Marine Corps) in various aspects of strategic communications including communications planning, branding, stakeholder relationship management, measurement, data collection and analysis, and marketing.

I graduated from the College of William & Mary with a BA in psychology and a minor in marketing in May of 2008.

Specialties: brand management, innovation, marketing, branding, market research, stakeholder relationship management, communications, strategy, organizational behavior, social psychology

Evan Traub

B

orn and raised near Cleveland, Ohio, as a young child Evan loved entertaining, hospitality, and cooking. He brought these passions to life through a candy store in his basement he used to sell treats to his neighbors and sisters’ friends. The candy store later evolved into a cafe with a menu assembled off of what was in the house.

Evan’s early jobs included prep work at Cleveland’s famed Ristorante Giovanni’s, working as a server assistant at Hyde Park Steakhouse and a bread maker at Great Harvest Bread Company.

In his teens Evan started a DJ entertainment company hiring his friends as the first employees. The company specialized in school dances, bar/bat mitzvahs and other teen events. The company grew, hired several employees over ten years while Evan went to college in Chicago and the DJ company added offices there too.

Evan studied public relations and marketing at DePaul University. While in school, Evan worked for Chartwells, a division of Compass Group, the Park Hyatt and Chicago’s preeminent nightlife and event group Rockit Ranch Productions.

After college, Evan became the Maitre’D for Nick’s Fishmarket, a 30-year old Chicago institution where he developed a passion for fine dining and elevated service. Evan moved on to the group’s sister restaurant in the western suburbs where he managed large teams for the popular destination.

In 2006 Evan was the opening GM for The Southern, a chef driven bar concept supporting local farmers and a great seasonal cocktail program. Evan and the team started an award winning food truck featuring mac & cheese and then opened a quick service mac & cheese shop in the loop. Evan began overseeing the Southern, food truck, quick service restaurant as well as the Hunt Club, a longtime Gold Coast late-night mainstaIn 2010 Evan started his career with Live Nation first working two different roles at House of Blues in Houston and then later moving to Los Angeles and serving as the National Director of Food and Beverage for the company working on training initiatives, food and beverage programs, special events, openings and enhancing guest experiences.

After four years with Live Nation, Evan and his wife moved back to Chicago in anticipation of their first son’s birth. Evan started with IMI Agency as an account manager after previously being their client. Evan has celebrated 5 years at IMI with a team of three and helps drive better beverage business for clients like Hyatt Hotels, Levy, Eataly, PPX Hospitality Brands, United Airlines Clubs, Mina Group and others.

Evan now lives in the western suburbs of Chicago with his wife and two young boys.
