In the History of Cognac, La Rochelle holds a special position because here distillation technology was first combined with locally produced wine. A Dutch salt merchant Bonaventure Godet settled in La Rochelle in the 16th century and became the first trader of “Dutch Burnt Wine”, which became highly valued by the future generations.

The expression “Dutch Burnt Wine” became “British Brandy” in the 18th century and later in the 19th century it became popular as the “French Cognac”. The wine is artfully crafted in the same location by the same family for 15 generations. The Godet House nurtures its barrels with the Atlantic Ocean, treating it as a secret ingredient. The Barrels enjoy a unique cellaring environment with humid and salty air and give birth to refined and singular cognacs.

Today the organization is entirely family-owned and the master blending operation is still under the control of the family members. The House of Godet aims to reflect the cognac terroir and emotions through a diverse selection of classic and modern cognacs. They believe in offering limited production, extensive maturation, handcrafted craftsmanship, and on-demand bottling of tailor-made cuvées.
